Looking to find a truly unique place to play your next round? Then look no further than today’s feature course: The Shipyard Golf Club on Hilton Head Island. Home to not one, not two, but three exceptional nine-hole layouts, the Shipyard will challenge you to execute shots and manage the course properly while treating you to some of the best views in Carolina golf.
Here’s some details on the courses:
Known universally as the most challenging of the three courses at Shipyard, The Clipper Course is jam-packed full of water hazards, sand bunkers, and other tests standing between you and the beautiful Diamond Zoysia greens. Designed by George Cobb and built in 1970, Clipper is also the longest layout of the three courses – clocking in at just under 3,500 yards from the back set of tees. Both length and accuracy are required here, so be sure to bring you “A” game if The Clipper is part of your round of 18.
The course’s original nine, Galleon, may not be as long or as heavily saturated with water as The Clipper, but it does feature a whole set of challenges unto itself. Playing 3,379 yards from the tips, the course wanders its way through large oaks and tall pines before approaching heavily guarded greens that are a challenge just to hit in regulation. At 410 yards, the course’s final hole, the par-4 9th, is one of the most challenging – so make sure to keep some gas in your tank before the last hole.
Finally, Shipyard’s newest layout, The Brigantine, is the perfect compliment to the other two fantastic nine-hole layouts. Designed by Willard C. Byrd and built in 1982, you’ll find water hazards and well-placed bunkers on just about every hole here – not to mention an alligator or two. A scenic course that requires exceptional shot making to score well, Brigantine’s 3,356-yard course is a true treat to play.
Not only does Shipyard Golf Club feature three great nine-hole courses, it’s also home to one of the area’s best practice facilities. Here you’ll find a full-service driving range, a beautifully conditioned putting green, a newly updated short-game area, and one of the most intriguing golf shops anywhere in South Carolina. Trust us – you won’t want to miss all that the Shipyard has to offer.
