This "official" course is the official destination for players with a passion for the game, so come experience it for yourself with today's feature: $29 for 18 Holes with Cart and Range Balls at Governors Run Golf Course in Carlyle near St. Louis ($65 Value. Expires September 30, 2025!)
Situated between creek tributaries of the Kaskaskia River, Governors Run ushers guests through breathtaking bridges, past magnificent trees and over glistening streams. It all started in October of 1992 when then-Illinois governor Jim Edgar landed his helicopter on what is now the first green, to take part in groundbreaking ceremonies for an endeavor that would transform the fields and creeks into one of Southern Illinois finest golf facilities.
In an effort to delineate the course, architect Don Horrell took advantage of a natural setting that lent itself to distinctively different styles. The front side of Governors Run is characterized by native prairie textures and lakes and encourages an open style of play. The back nine winds through woodlands, over creeks and around lakes, resulting in a demanding layout that places a premium on accuracy and shot-making. All told, Governors Run yields 7,013 yards of golf, with 13 lakes scattered throughout the gorgeous par-72 layout.
While some courses talk a big game in regards to being a great place to play, Governors Run has the accolades to back up the claim. In fact, Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” gave the course a near-perfect 4.5-star rating. Part of this designation comes from an accommodating setup that provides five sets of tees so golfers of all levels of skill feel at home on the proper tee box.
