Calderone Golf Club

Sometimes, the best place to hide something is right out in the open. And if you’ve ever driven on I-94 near Jackson, then you've likely seen today's featured course and wondered exactly what its name was. As it turns out, you were looking at Calderone Golf Club in Grass Lake. Designed by University of Michigan alum William "Bill" Newcomb and opened for play in 2000, Calderone Golf Club is a superb layout measuring 7,004 yards from the back tees with a cool 74.2/136 rating.

With the wonderful mix of wooded fairways, tall heather, links-styled holes, elevated tees and competition-quality greens you’ll wonder why you haven’t taken the next exit off I-94. The newly constructed clubhouse and relaxing patio is a great compliment to the challenging upscale layout. In phenomenal shape, Calderone Golf Club forces you to hit straight shots and maintain focus on proper club selection. Known for its hidden pot bunkers, you’ll be lucky to make bogie if you happen upon one of these nasty traps. So be sure to take a little extra time to read the hole tips provided on each cart prior to uncoiling on your tee shot.

These large greens are soft, yet deceptively fast. In addition, several of Calderone Golf Club’s greens are multi-tiered and absolutely love to punish misjudged distance on your approach shots. While the greens remain consistent, the front and back nines are strikingly different. The front nine will rival some of the best links-styled courses around while the back nine will bring you home with a more traditional feel, surrounded by trees and rolling topography.

Go on, shut off the GPS and take the exit for Calderone Golf Club (right next to a well-known attraction at this time of year, The Michigan Whitetail Museum). A short 30- to 45-minute drive from nearly anywhere in southern Michigan, Calderone Golf Club is centrally located and easy to find. So come on out, say hi to the gang and see what this challenging track is all about.
