College Fields Golf Club
This could get interesting. As if the fact that Michigan State's Spartans have prevented the Wolverines from capturing the Paul Bunyan Trophy since 2008 wasn't enough, we've got another battle brewing. One thing is for certain, the rivalry is on! Yesterday's feature at Ann Arbor Country Club in the land of Maize and Blue was supported by 188 of our loyal GroupGolfer subscribers. Now, we give the Spartans a chance to see what they're made of with today's feature: $15 for 18 holes with cart at College Fields in East Lansing.
Think about it, MSU was the first land grant and agricultural college in America. So, it only makes sense that when you’ve got that much soil in your history, a neighboring golf course is sure to get some love and attention. College Fields is meticulous about its maintenance and it shows on each hole. Offering three sets of tees to test your skills, you’ll find a nice blend of open links-style play on the front and wooded ball-magnets lurking on the back. Playing 6,482 yards from the tips to a 72/136 rating, you can be confident you’ve turned in an honest round when you've finished 18 at College Fields.
Located near East Lansing, College Fields has played host to some quality golf tournaments in its tenure, such as the Michigan Women’s Amateur Championship, the GAM’s Fuller Cup, and several USGA events. The Pro Shop staff is friendly, and the merchandise racks are filled with the latest in technology, tools and textiles to meet all of your last-minute needs.
As usual, you may want to arrive early to spend time on the practice putting green and visit the unique driving range. Granting you a glimpse into the round to come, the hills, tall grass and marsh on the range allow you to practice distance, loft and accuracy with each practice shot. On your way back from the range, grab a hot dog, snack or beverage before you head out to start your round.
While we don’t have a trophy to play for — yet — GroupGolfer rivalry weekend is up for grabs. As for the real game, well, I guess we’ll all just have to wait and see.
