River Ridge Golf Club
Today’s feature takes you just off the Ventura Freeway: $32 for 18 Holes with Cart and a Small Bucket of Range Balls at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard near Los Angeles ($68 Value)
River Ridge Golf Club features two par-72 courses that are renowned for their wide-open fairways, low-lying roughs, superb bentgrass/poa annua greens and combined 16 acres of sparkling lakes. Players can expect a reasonable challenge with slight off-shore ocean breezes and rolling fairways.
The 18-hole Vineyard Course and Victoria Lakes Course each possess their own unique character with features such as the "Island Hole" and "Amen Corner," respectively. Originally designed by Billy Bell Jr. in the mid-1980s, the Vineyard Course has gone through several redesigns providing ocean and panoramic views of Ventura County. The Victoria Lakes course, opened in the summer of 2008, was the proud host of a 2009 AJGA four-day tournament and home to arguably one of the most challenging holes in the county: A double dogleg that plays into the wind and measures 425 yards from the blue tees, flanked by lakes on both sides.
Both courses provide not only great tests of golf but also an exceptional pace of play. River Ridge Golf Club has an outstanding team and enforces the pace-of-play policy. In 2010, the average round time on the Vineyard Course was 4 hours 17 minutes. Seventy-nine percent of play finished in less than 4 hours 23 minutes, and over 98% finished in less than 5 hours.
In addition to 36 championship holes, River Ridge Golf Club has complete practice facilities including an all-grass driving range, practice putting and chipping greens and a learning center staffed by PGA professionals. The clubhouse offers complete dining and banquet facilities and hosts an average of 38 weddings a year. Perhaps best of all, you'll find a warm and friendly staff that offers nothing-but-the-best, country-club quality.
