Candlestone Golf and Resort
Welcome back to West Michigan, GroupGolfers! Let us introduce you to the newly redesigned Candlestone Golf & Resort, this weekend’s featured destination. Home of the West Michigan Amateur, Candlestone Golf’s new owners have been busy since 2008, giving the course a seven-figure makeover. Like a P90x infomercial, the before-and-after shot are impressive to say the least.
Calling upon the renowned skills of Michael Husby to improve upon the original Jerry Matthews design, was simply a stroke of brilliance. Husby took what Uncle Jerry gave him back in 1978, and added 31 new tee boxes, removed nearly 700 trees, added 25 new sand traps, and filled all 52 bunkers with USGA-specification sand. Husby’s steadfast belief that championship consistency, leads to championship quality is evident in this newly crafted resort styled course.
Now offering five sets of tees, playing between 4,940 – 7,016 yards, Candlestone is ready to adapt to all skill levels, age groups, and weekend warriors. With water coming into play on half of the holes, and fast rolling bent grass greens, you better keep on your toes down the stretch if you plan to go low. Giving you a fair shake at a personal best through the first fourteen holes, Candlestone’s last four are some of the toughest in the area. With ever changing winds, that seem to always blow in the wrong direction, #’s 15-18 are a great opportunity to turn up your game, and lock down your friendly “loser buys lunch” wager.
Offering a complete menu, fully stocked bar, great ambiance, and first rate service is what Candlestone has been known for, and the Grille is no exception. Savoring your Water Tower specialty burger, sipping on your favorite after-round beverage out on the patio, or while watching one of the many flat screens inside the newly renovated Water Tower Grille, is a perfect way to cap off your memorable trip to Candlestone Golf and Resort.
If you are lucky enough to attend a wedding, or special event at Candlestone, do yourself a favor and book a room early. All rooms at the resort got their fair share of makeover attention, including new beds, flat screens, and wireless internet. The upscale banquet facilities can host as many as 300 guests, and can include a number of special considerations to make your perfect day a dream come true.
So, get ready to dust off the sticks, and visit Candlestone Golf and Resort soon. If you haven’t played Candlestone recently, well, then you haven’t played it at all.
