Wallinwood Springs Golf Club is a par-72 that stretches up to 6,751 yards with a playable but challenging rating of 72.4/128. Like the Scots, the designers at Wallinwood Springs believed that nature should be the golf ball’s worst enemy; alas, they created the front nine in the traditional Scottish style. The difficulty of a hole changes with the wind, but one constant challenge throughout your round will be the berms, ponds, mounds and over 30 sand traps ready to leave you stymied. Like the large, undulating greens, these obstacles can be an unpleasant penalty if you happen to put yourself in the wrong position.
A 26-acre, man-made watery grave can haunt the majority of your back nine, backed up by the Grand River that runs parallel to the 10th, 11th and 12th holes. Basically, even the slightest error and your ball may need to learn the backstroke. Woods line the left side of these holes so there is no room to be anything but surgical. Don't let yourself get spooked — there are plenty of opportunities on both sides to make up for any of these likely mishaps. Just mind the par-5 No. 18: The dog-leg will reward the long hitter who can place the ball perfectly, but will destroy a round for those who are greedy and without precision.
