West End Golf Club
At times, the most frustrating thing about golf in Central Florida is deciding which course to show up at next. No worries, friends, for today’s feature will leave you with no question as to where you and the irons are headed next: $10 for 18 Holes with Cart at West End Golf Club in Newberry near Gainesville ($25 Value. Includes Tax. Expires Sept. 1, 2011.)
West End Golf Club came about in 1968 as the first nine-hole, fully-lighted golf course built in the Gainesville area, and a year later, the back nine was finished — the country’s longest par-60 course was born!
As a Gainesville spin on Miami design by architect John E. O’Connor, this unique artificially lit golf course plays 3,940-yards from the tips and is still touted by Golf Digest as the longest par-60 to this day. Altogether, West End Golf Club of Gainesville sits on a total of 70 lush acres in Alachua County, with the front and back nines playing 1,755 and 1,637 yards, respectively.
With three sets of tees, West End Golf Club caters to golfers of all abilities while maintaining a challenge. Though all 18 holes stretch out to just shy of only 4,000 yards, don't let yourself be fooled by some of West End's tricky holes, such as the par-4 No. 4. Not only is it the longest hole on the course, it’s the longest par-4 in the area, measuring 430 yards and finishing with the smallest green the course has to offer.
Prior to hitting the links at West End be sure to swing by their range and give those woods and irons a good look over, as West End will challenge your accuracy.
Aside from offering challenging golf under the lights, West End’s pro-shop offers you all of the best product names you demand and deserve. Manager and Golf Pro Scott Dombeck stands by their reputation as Greater Gainesville’s most popular Pro Shop, offering great products, fitting and repair. One particular reason to visit the Pro Shop at West End: Purchases of clubs include rounds of golf!
Whether playing under the sun or under the stars, don’t miss this opportunity to head out on one of the most unique courses Greater Gainesville has to offer.
