Garland: Just say its name and people understand. This illustrious resort bears lineage dating back to 1953, and already having been a staple of Northern Michigan outdoor activity for over half a century, Garland Lodge and Resort is re-emerging as the Mecca it has always been, still is and forever promises to be.
With an investment of over $6 million from new ownership towards renovations of the destination’s entire property, it’s becoming apparent that Garland Lodge and Resort’s efforts have placed it among the great names of Northern Michigan golf and entertainment. Everything from the lodge to the restaurant– and, of course, the golf courses – have all been retouched, renewed and refined.
Chief among the renovations at Garland Lodge and Resort: All four championship courses – Swampfire, Reflections, Monarch and Fountains – have received a face-lift, with improved bunkers, resurfaced cart paths and everything in between. As for the Lodge itself, the interior of Garland’s historic wooden centerpiece have been revamped throughout, even in the destination’s outdoors-inspired Antlers Bar & Grill.
You’ll find each course offers its own personality and unique set of challenges to players. Or as General Manager Glen Miesch puts it, "It would be hard to pick out another property with four distinct golf courses that challenge any golfer on any level."
Swampfire is kind enough to give you a choice: Bring an extra sleeve of balls or step up your game! Spanning out to a total of 6,854 yards from the tips, Swampfire features water on 16 of its 18 holes, so a high premium is placed on shot accuracy and control.
On the other hand, for you shot-makers out there, there’s the Reflections Course. Measuring a full par-4 shorter than Swampfire at 6,407 yards, Reflections challenges you with water on just 8 of its 18 holes. The shorter length and reduced number of water hazards means you’ll have more time to enjoy its beauty while still conquering holes like its signature par-3 No. 16.
Thirdly, with a maximum length of 7,188 yards, the Monarch Course is certainly the queen that reigns over Garland. Accordingly, the Monarch tends to have a more regal personality and a traditional-style layout, with its undulating greens and various hazards. Be sure to look for the Bald Eagle’s nest on No. 11!
Last but not least, you have the Fountains Course. Measuring out to an even 6,800 yards with water on 9 of its 18, she’ll challenge you with her long and narrow fairways, so make those tee shots count by getting loose and limber at the range before the start of your round.
Whether it be before your round or after the fact, be sure to pop into Garland’s pro shop and check out all of the biggest names in golf and outdoor gear that you deserve. And with all the golf you’ll be doing, you’re sure to end up hungry, so tally up the day’s scores at either Antlers Bar and Grill or Bunkers on the Patio to take in some first-class food and drink.
For all these reasons and more, we invite you to stay-and-play at this wonderful facility. Become a first-hand witness to all that Garland Lodge and Resort is doing for the region and the great game of golf in the state of Michigan!
