Pike Run Golf Club
Today's feature mixes typical American-style design with the style of golf's ancient roots in beautiful Northern Ohio landscape: $18 for 18 Holes with Cart and a Large Bucket of Balls at Pike Run Golf Club in Ottawa near Findlay ($42 Value. Good Any Day, Any Time until July 1, 2012.)
So here we are with another great Northern Ohio track, Pike Run Golf Club. Pike Run is known for mixing and matching its architectural philosophies, in that its unique design offers up two completely different styles of golf. Conceptualized by Ernie Schrock, the front nine features a fully Scottish links-style, meaning you may swing away on the front nine without having to move the ball around tree-lined fairways — just don't find the long Fescue grass and strategically placed bunkers and you'll be well-positioned to take on the back.
The back nine is a stark contrast from the previous nine. Shot placement is key here because the holes are framed out of the surrounding hardwoods in the traditional American parkland style, and you could easily find yourself pulling your hair out if you’re behind a tree. Although the front and back nine are polar opposites, they’re similar in the sense that Pike Run Golf Club is a shot-maker's course that allows players of all skill sets to pick and place shots with any club in their bag.
Pike Run Golf Club is a par-71 layout that measures out to 6,261 yards from the tips with a course/slope rating of 69/115. The course has four different tee locations to accommodate all players' skill levels. Pike Creek comes into play on five of nine holes on the back nine, and given the fall foliage, you're in for a great atmosphere even apart from golf.
Be sure to swing into the pro shop at Pike Run before you warm up on their all-grass practice range. You’ll find a amply stocked pro shop offering up all things golf. After your round be sure to play the 19th hole at P.R. Mulligans, for some cold beer, hot food and a comfortable environment. Don’t pass this opportunity to get in a last solid fall round at Northern Ohio's Pike Run Golf Club before the snow falls!
