You’ll be forced to use every club in the bag, navigating this par-72 converted horse farm designed by John R. Williams. You may even use every ball in the bag too, unless you learn early on in the round that a good score is comprised of good shots, and not bombs off the tee. From the second you tee up on #1, you’ll quickly realize where the course gets its name from. Carved amongst wetlands, marsh, creeks, and a good chunk of forest, the course is filled with its namesake on nearly every hole, marking a watery, golf ball-swallowing grave.

Cattails is a shotmaker’s course and to score well you better remember this pearl of wisdom we’re giving you here: Accuracy, accuracy, accuracy. The undulated, well guarded greens may not offer a clear approach, even with a fairway stat off the tee. So, lay up and use your head before reaching for the boomstick on the tee box. Sometimes a 5- or 6-iron is all you will need to put yourself in position for a nicely controlled wedge approach and make birdie.

Regarded as having some of the best greens around, Cattails takes incredible pride in keeping an exceptionally manicured appearance, while challenging you on every shot. Well marked throughout the course, yardage markers are easy to find, although largely unnecessary. Equipped with UpLink GPS systems on every cart, you can only hope your shots are as accurate as the technology.
