Formerly known as Portage Point Golf Club — and originally opened in 1964 as a water-laden nine-hole layout — Oak Harbor Golf Club now claims an 18-hole, par-72 layout which spans over 6,500 yards from the tips with a course/slope rating of 70/112. The current configuration was recently nominated Ottawa County’s favorite public golf course and is the home course for The First Tee of Lake Erie.
The banks of the Portage River meander through Oak Harbor’s layout, which offers up some great scenery and a challenge as well – bring an extra sleeve of balls unless you’ve got your early-season game dialed in already. Added to the scenery, you’ll find a little something extra on the 15th hole: Clearly permanent members at Oak Harbor, an family of American Bald Eagles have constructed a nest near the tee box.
