A gorgeous Gulf Coast Donald J. Ross classic, this 6,609-yard par-72 requires tight lines off the tee and decent accuracy on approach to go low.

Panama Country Club

Discover the intrepid beauty of Gulf Coast golf in the Panhandle just north of Panama City with today’s feature: $23 for 18 Holes with Cart at Panama Country Club in Lynn Haven near Panama City ($53 Value. Includes Tax. Valid Any Day, Any Time until December 31, 2012.)

Constructed in 1927 by renowned ASGCA member Donald J. Ross — who also designed such beloved courses as Pinehurst No. 2 and Seminole — the “Panama” course has only gotten better with age. While having been redesigned a bit over the years, eight of the holes still directly reflect the architect’s original masterwork, and the course retains the marks of its era: Shapely, coutoured fairways that flow with the scenic backdrop; tall trees that still stand guard after nearly a century; and greens that are carefully sized and indicative of their birth in the Golden Age of golf design.

Playing on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico has never been so beautiful. The fairways are strategically woven into landscape across the entire 6,609-yard layout. Ranging from narrow to average width, these well-groomed paths provide plenty opportunity for the more accurate drivers of the ball. Every yard counts, because the Bermuda grass greens are quick and guarded by wisely placed bunkers waiting to punish any impure shots.

The 18-hole, par-72 course is open year around, and its many accolades and varying degrees of difficulty have made Panama Country Club an area favorite. The course and slope ratings from the back tees register at 72.1 and 125, respectively, with the option playing any of three additional sets of tees, which bring the total yardage down to roughly 5,250 at a minimum.

Heed the call of a classic Donald Ross design and come out to Panama Country Club for a taste of golf as it was nearly a century ago!
