DubsDread Golf Course has been "Orlando's Golf Course" since 1924, giving it the oldest public layout in the central Florida region. Adding to its sense of history is the story of its very birth: After a disagreement with the Orlando Country Club — believed to be in regards to its prohibition on wagering — Orlando resident Carl Dann Sr. supposedly walked down the street asking for $1,000 pledges to join his more laid-back golf club. At least one hundred joined that very day.
Located just minutes from Downtown Orlando, this historical course is the former site of the Orlando Open and has hosted such well-known golf figures as Jimmy Demaret, Babe Zaharias, Claude Harmon, Sam Snead and Ben Hogan.
The course was acquired by the City of Orlando in 1977 and remained virtually unchanged until 2008, when the course was put through a major renovation. Among the changes: All 18 holes were redesigned to improve the draineage, guest safety, playability and environmental impact. In addition, the restrooms and lockers in the clubhouse were upgraded and overflow space for DubsDread's Tap Room restaurant was added. The Tap Room restaurant opened in 2001 and has earned several rewards, including "Best Outdoor Dining," "Dining Hall of Fame" and "Best Power Lunch Spot."
To top it all off, you can take full advantage of DubsDread Golf Course's complete practice facilities. Also, you're always welcome to try out the lighted driving range and large putting green, as well as two separate chipping and bunker practice areas.
