Zoar Village Golf Club

Zoar Village Golf Club, eponymously named for the nearby village just south of Canton, has been serving the region with distinction for over 35 years. Featuring a flawless design and carefully managed conditions, Zoar Village has earned its spot among Ohio's top public courses, and with good reason.

The course was a masterful creation of the late, great Geoffrey S. Cornish, a highly distinguished architect and member of the ASGCA. You may recognize his name, as the highly productive Cornish had his hand in over 200 courses world-wide. The quality of the surrounding environment reflects greatly on the finished product: Mature trees line opposing-angle doglegs of varying degrees; large greens all possess their unique shape and subtle undulations; and beautiful white-sand bunkers dot the landscape.

Given the full attention to detail paid to the course, Zoar Village Golf Club was honored in Golf Digest's 2004 edition of "Best Places to Play." After setting foot on the first tee box, you'll soon discover why. While the design certainly tempts the eye away from its task, try to remain focused, as the 6,585-yard course can strike quickly and without warning. Consideration must be made even on No. 1, where a first tee shot must carry water and avoid bunkers left and right.

Owing to the trend at Zoar Village of favoring tight fairways made even tighter by strategically placed bunkers, you'll want to head to the practice facility. With grass tees, the driving range will help you work your swing into a groove, and the 12,000 square-foot putting green will boost your confidence to make those 10-footers that usually slip on by.
