Though its roots extend back to the early 19th century, Snyder Park Golf Course was founded as a nine-hole course just over 90 years ago, in the summer of 1921. A year later, another nine was added due to Snyder Park's burgeoning popularity. Today, the 18-hole course features a well-maintained vintage layout that measures 6,381 yards with a 69.9/118 course/slope rating.
The round starts with a straightforward par-4 of about 400 yards, but escalates quickly from there. No. 2, a 480-yard par-5, has a blade-thin landing zone through a narrow pipe of trees for both tee shot and second shot. Just a couple holes later, the #1 handicap: the par-3 No. 5. As if this hole wasn't already difficult enough with a lengthy 216 yards, its green is tightly enclosed by trees and bunkers.
Things get a little more casual on the back nine, which is good, because most players have at least a few to make up for. Though it's a par-36 like the front, the back plays about 200 yards shorter. Notable holes include No. 11, a par-4 with a false-front accentuated by four symmetrically placed bunkers; and No. 16, a gentle giant with 555 yards and a good opportunity for a birdie.
