Sylvan Heights Golf Course
Play one of Pennsylvania's historic courses with today's feature: $10 for 18 Holes with Cart at Sylvan Heights Golf Course in New Castle ($35 Value. Good Any Day, Any Time until April 15, 2014.)
Since opening in 1928, Sylvan Heights Golf Course has set the standard for municipal golf courses in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Smartly operated by the city of New Castle's Parks and Recreation Department, Sylvan Heights is dedicated to preserving an historic golfing experience while still providing all of the modern amenities we've come to associate with great golf courses across the Northeast.
Playing 6,264 yards from the back tees, Sylvan Heights Golf Course is 18 holes of beautiful, time-tested golf that is sure to delight any player that steps out onto the first tee. Featuring a 72.0/125 course/slope rating, Sylvan Heights Golf Course provides a unique test of golf for the golfer of any ability and skill level.
The longest holes on the course play the hardest, with the #1-handicap par-5 No. 4, playing over 550 yards from the back tees. Proper course management and accurate tee shots are crucial for every player looking to shoot a low score on this course. Play smart, stay out of the water, sand traps and wooded areas, and Sylvan Heights may just be home to one of your low scores on the year.
Speaking of low scores, one of the historic highlights of Sylvan Heights' illustrious history was playing host to the 1948 West Penn Amateur featuring an amateur golfer by the name of Arnold Palmer. Though the course may not look the exact same as when The King played it — thanks to a well-timed renovation in 1998 that vastly improved the course — there is no doubt that a golfer from any generation would be thrilled to play a round on one of the country's best municipal tracks.
