Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon offers some of the area’s most visually stimulating golf holes amidst dynamic terrain that couldn't be better suited for the game. This one-of-a-kind facility gives guests a choice between two fantastic 18-hole layouts, both more-or-less equally difficult but each uniquely designed.
Both courses, "The Legends" and "The Champions," are the handiwork of architects Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley of Schmidt-Curley Golf Design. These two artists have developed nearly a hundred courses together, both domestically and internationally — including past collaborations with some of golf's most noted personalities, such as Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, Pete Dye, Vijay Singh and Annika Sörenstam. Well-known for their dedication to the preservation of each development's existing features, Schmidt and Curley have carefully carved out The Legends and The Champions courses from the surrounding terrain, and the result is astounding.
Woven tightly along adjacent fairways and tucked neatly into a residential golf community, The Champions course was the first-born at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon. This challenging layout flummoxes golfers with undulated terrain and difficult pin placements. As the more difficult of the two, The Champions plays to a lengthy 7,377 yards from the furthest tees with a slope rating of 76.1/139. However, the forward-thinking designers made the championship course accessible to players of all skill levels by including four additional sets of tees, which play to as little as 5,274 yards.
The Legends sings a different tune. Spread out generously across this mountainous environment, each hole stands alone, creating a more intimate atmosphere that helps players focus on each hole, one at a time. While this course is similar in topography, it measures a bit longer than its sister course, with a total length of 7,442 yards. With a design that plays more into the surrounding canyon hazards, this links-style course requires equally more attention in order to avoid them. On the scorecard, The Legends seems slightly more gentle with a slope rating of 75.9/141, but in practice, it’s too close to call.
Morongo Golf Club's practice facility is among the best in the state. Three practice greens afford a greatly varied chipping/putting practice environment, including several bunkers for sand-save work. Nearby is the full-length driving range, featuring natural grass hitting areas and and five target greens. Each tier of the range is accompanied by a bunker to allow for practice with flying shots from fairway bunkers all the way to the green. Guests will find Morongo Golf Club's dining options equally impressive, as they sit casually at the Tukwet Canyon Bar and Grill enjoying an early breakfast or an evening night cap.
There's so much that to offer here that there that guests will likely find themselves yearning to come back and take it all in over and over again. So, wait no more, and come live the unique and scenic golf experience found only at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon.
