Blackhawk Trace has earned a reputation as a premier golfing destination and also boasts an impressive list of hosted events, including three NGA Hooters Tours and three local qualifiers for the Nationwide Tour's LaSalle Bank Open in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Golfers of all abilities are sure to find this course suitable to their tastes — whether it's the 615-yard par-5 with an elevated green, or the 155-yard par-3 with a full-on island green, there's something to be found for everyone. This course is strategically challenging with a par of 72 and total yardages ranging from 6,966 from the formidable championship tees to just 4,943 from the forward tees.
Nationally renowned golf course architect Rick Jacobson transformed the original 1960s-era style course into a sleek resort golf experience. Jacobson finished the first nine holes of the massive renovation in the summer of 2002, and the second nine opened a year later. The work succeeded in raising the course to the highest level in regards to conditioning, challenge and overall aesthetics.
The $3 million renovation included new bunker complexes inspired by the work of Alister McKenzie, many of which slope dramatically down from the green. Also part of the work were renovated greens that recapture or create new pin placements, enlarged fairway bailout areas, upgrades to all playing surfaces and the addition of fescue grass to provide contrast and texture to the turf.
All in all, Blackhawk Trace Golf Club at Indian Lakes Resort represents exactly the way a premier resort course ought to be — a relaxing getaway from the every-day with plenty of challenge and a ton of class.
