Broadmoor Golf Links was carefully carved from gently rolling terrain in a natural valley just off of I-25. Its unique location allows Broadmoor to showcase a wonderful mix of several golf styles, all wrapped in one beautifully designed package.
Broadmoor was designed by international course architect Karl Litten, who is known for his ability to create diverse masterpieces on a variety of landscapes the world over. Litten keeps company with the best as one of the "Fab Four" architects — namely Nicklaus, Fazio and Palmer — so rest assured that Broadmoor is one scorecard you'll want to hold on to.
The dominating theme is one reminiscent of the traditional Scottish links. Long, wide fairways are beautifully contoured and typically separated by links-style mounding and grasses. However, this is where the brilliant blending of Litten shines through. Unlike classic links designs with small burns and creeks, Broadmoor's position in the French Broad River Valley generously provides many small lakes and ponds to contend with throughout the course. This inclusion of another style, which borrows from the coast of the Carolinas, puts an exciting spin on the normally dry round found on a links course.
From its longest set of tees, Broadmoor Golf Links stretches to a total of 7,140 yards. The aforementioned waters provide a fair challenge when combined with this kind of length, and this par-72 ends up with a tough 73.3/132 course/slope rating. Ever mindful of the need to accommodate players of all skill levels, Litten included three alternate tee locations in his design, which measure as little as 5,082 yards.
While Broadmoor's convenient location near major highways certainly is a plus, it pales in comparison to the sheer thoughtfulness behind the layout of the course itself. From playing high wedges over water to bump-and-run pitches, full-power drivers to low-iron stingers, there's no shortage of shots to be had here at Broadmoor Golf Links.
