Lockwood Folly Country Club
When it comes to picturesque golf in coastal North Carolina, you really can’t beat a round at today's feature course: $25 for 18 Holes with Cart at Lockwood Folly Country Club in Supply near Wilmington ($79 Value. Expires July 1, 2015!)
Located on the Carolina coast mid-way between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington, Lockwood Folly Country Club isn’t your typical ho-hum course. Its unique plot of land along the Lockwood Folly River and the Intra-Coastal Waterway provided an exceptionally beautiful blank canvas that was worked into a masterpiece by course architect Willard Byrd.
Byrd created a challenging 18-hole design that is tough but fair, with great views and ambiance to match his championship layout. Lockwood Folly is a par-72 that plays to a moderate length of 6,836 yards from the tips with a course/slope rating of 73.9/140. The numerous water hazards really contribute to the course's difficulty, as it requires patience and precision with every shot. To accommodate players of all skill levels, the front tees offer up a distance of 5,029 yards for a rating of 71.1 and a slope of 122.
Guests will leave Lockwood Folly Country Club "with an incredible memory of tree-lined fairways with massive oaks, stately pines, quiet ponds and abundant wildlife." And with its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, "the roar of the surf often remains with golfers long after their round is completed."
In recognition of its brilliance, the course was voted by the Brunswick Beacon as the "Best Golf Course in Brunswick County" in both 2012 and 2013, and was featured in Golf Digest's "Places to Play" in 2009.
Lockwood Folly Country Club is a favorite of critics and players alike, and a trip to the coast is warranted to experience this hidden gem.
