How many courses in such close proximity to Los Angeles can boast mountain views, championship-quality greens, fairways and bunkers and a progressive layout to boot? The answer is not many, and Upland Hills Country Club is among the few.
This stunning David Rainville design features large, undulating greens and excellent playability. David Rainville has been involved in over 55 course designs, along with additional work in remodels and redesigns on numerous courses throughout the United States and Asia — Torrey Pines among them.
Like most tour-caliber courses with large greens, the phrase "aim small, miss small," as in, aim your shots as if playing to a small green, as opposed to simply trying to land on the dance floor. Aim too large, and you're liable to have a three-putt waiting for you. This par-70 layout measures out to a fair 5,902 yards from the furthest tees with a course/slope rating of 69/121. Upland Hill Country Club has five different tee locations, which cater to scratch golfers, weekend warriors, women and juniors alike.
The front nine is comprised of a slew of par-4’s, with a pair of par-3’s, and a 539-yard par-5 on No.6 at Upland Hills. You’ll start off your back nine with the 369-yard par-4 No.10, which is the first of a trio of par-4’s that kick it off. On the shortish 475-yard par-5 No.13, you should be able to make up a stroke, setting you up for a smooth finish in the remaining pair of par-3’s and 4’s that close up your round.
