Birdsfoot Golf Club is the sort of golf experience that invokes hushed, reverent tones from those recounting their day spent on its lush fairways. This high level of respect, usually reserved for only the most legendary courses, is not unwarranted: Birdsfoot has earned a coveted 4.5-star rating from Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play" for its spectacular design and utmost attention to playing conditions.
The course was designed by Brian Ault and James Cervone, Jr., both members of the ASGCA, and construction was directed by Elwood Williard. The team was given full creative control over 182 acres of rolling hills and the result was a unique blend of links-style and traditional parkland design elements.
"We like to say that this is the best-kept secret in Western Pennsylvania, but the secret's pretty much out."
— Al Lindsey, owner
Named for the birdsfoot trefoil, a small flowering green that adorns the landscape of this former farm, Birdsfoot Golf Club takes its appearance seriously. The course was built with golf in mind, so golfers can enjoy the scenery without the distraction of residential development. Constant improvements and investment into the course, such as new surfaces for its continuous cart paths, push Birdsfoot ever closer to perfection.
Of course, Birdsfoot's exemplary aesthetics are backed by an exceptional grounds crew that has earned the course a reputation for high-quality, private-club course conditions — without the stuffy, private-club vibe. The staff take pride in continually providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere to its guests.
