Play a classic Pennsylvania course with today’s feature: $24 for 18 Holes with Cart and Range Balls on the White Course at Penn State University in State College ($60 Value. Good Any Day, Any Time until August 1, 2016!)
Since undergoing renovations in 2005, today’s feature course, the White Course at Penn State Golf Courses, has truly taken on a new life. These unique 18 holes, originally constructed in 1922, will provide you with a classic round of golf in a truly exceptional part of the Pennsylvania countryside.
The front and the back nine not only represent two halves of the same course, they also play that way too, with drastically different challenges united by incredible conditions and a beautiful picturesque landscape. The front nine, measuring just over 3,200 yards from the back set of tees, is a relic from another era, with its impressive small crowned greens and tight landing areas off the tee. Bunkers are plentiful here too, with over 40 on the front nine alone. Walking off the front with a low score is an achievement in itself, and if you’re playing well, its one that will give you confidence you need going into the first few holes on the back.
Shorter than the front at only 3,100 yards, the back nine in inundated with changes in elevation which makes estimating yardages a challenge for those who struggle to control their distances. Bunkers are frequent here too, both in the fairways and around the greens, and the course’s par-3s will serve as some of the day’s most difficult challenges.
Playing 6,344 yards from the tips and carrying a 70.5/130 course/slope rating, the White Course is a formidable and enjoyable foe for even the most experienced player.
Along with the White Course and its sister Blue Course, the Penn State Golf Courses facility is home to some excellent amenities designed to round out your day. The Nineteenth Hole Cafe, the clubhouse restaurant, is exactly as it sounds: the perfect 19th hole destination to toast your scores with all kinds of refreshments. If you’d like to get some work in before hitting the first tee, the award-winning practice facility is the perfect place to visit with its full driving range, four putting greens, and bunker area. If you’re in need of an upgrade in the equipment or apparel department, the fully stocked golf shop has been named one of the 100 Best.
The courses are immaculate, the amenities are plentiful – plan your first great round of the year by taking advantage of today’s feature from GroupGolfer!
