Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club
Spend the day in the shadow of Sodus Bay with today’s feature: $20 for 18 Holes with Cart at Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club in Sodus Point near Rochester ($50 Value. Good Any Time until November 1, 2016!)
Located in Sodus Point just a short drive from downtown Rochester, today’s feature course, Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club, is a Parkland-style dream on the shores of a bay. Established in 1924 and currently in the best condition of its significant history, Sodus Point Heights is a can’t-miss round of golf in a truly spectacular setting.
You’ll be extremely delighted as you start your round at Sodus Bay Heights, as the first tee box is home to one of the course’s most spectacular views. With the waters of Sodus Bay on your right and rolling hills on your left, you’ll be challenged throughout your round to not let the nearly constant picturesque postcard-like views distract you from the task at hand: managing the course properly and executing shots. Though water and mature trees do come into play quite often throughout the 18, Sodus Bay Heights’ most well-known challenge comes from the rolling elevation changes present throughout the landscape. Not only does this undulation make accounting for proper distance a challenge, it also means that, even in the fairway, you’ll often be left with an uphill or downhill lie. Combine this with the consistent strong winds off of the bay, and you’re in for quite a wild ride as you try to shoot a low score.
Pro Tip: Take special care when approaching the par-4 5th hole – Sodus Bay Heights’ signature challenge. Playing just over 450 yards from the back set of tees, your tee shot will have to contend with water crossing the fairway around the landing area (300 yards) and a pond on the left (240). Avoid the drink, and you’re left with an approach shot that must be properly struck to avoid the three sand bunkers that protect the severely elevated large green.
Just like the beautiful golf course, when it comes to practice facilities in the Empire State, Sodus Bay Heights truly sets the standard. If you want to work on your full swing before your round begins, the newly renovated driving range offers the perfect platform. If you lose too many strokes with your short game, Sodus has a dedicated place to work on just your wedges and putter just adjacent to the 18th hole. The clubhouse also features a fully stocked pro shop and full-service restaurant perfect for toasting your scores after your round.
