Tippecanoe Country Club
A Presidential golfing experience awaits you with today’s feature: $19 for 18 Holes with Cart at Tippecanoe Country Club in Monticello near Lafayette ($49 Value. Good Any Day, Any Time until May 15, 2017!)
Named for the battle that put our 9th president, William Henry Harrison, on the map, today’s feature course, Tippecanoe Country Club in Monticello (no relation to our third President’s homestead), is truly a course worthy of the leader of the free world. Beautifully crafted on one of the most stunning scenic landscapes on the East side of the state, this classic Hoosier course isn’t one you’ll want to miss.
If you’re one of those players that can consistently hit your driver accurately off of the tee box, Tippecanoe’s almost 6,800-yard layout should be right in your wheelhouse. The combined genius of the course’s original designers, along with a mid-60s revamp by Indiana legend Pete Dye, create not only one of the finest challenges of golf in the Midwest, but indeed, the rest of the country as well. You’ll find water in play throughout the course, but the drink definitely makes the biggest impact on the few holes that line the mighty Tippecanoe river – leaving little room for any kind of duck-hook off of the tee.
Bunkers and trees make up a majority of the course’s remaining hazards, and will challenge you to quickly learn to keep your ball in play whenever you can, and to know how, when, and where to miss when you can’t. Play your cards right all the way throughout your round, and the other members of your foursome may just reward you with a rousing rendition of “Hail to the Chief” when they see your low score on the day.
Your first stop before hitting the course’s spectacular starting point should be the clubhouse pro shop. Fully stocked with all of your favorite brands and a variety of essential accessories, the pro shop beats those big box store prices any day. Wanna get in some practice? Adjusting to the speed of the greens and working out the kinks in your short game is easy on Tippecanoe’s manicured chipping and putting greens. After you’ve put the clubs back in the car, a stop into the Oakdale on the Lake bar and grill is a must for each visitor to the course. With a complete menu of your favorite food and drinks, and a relaxing atmosphere overlooking the outstanding countryside, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better way to end your day anywhere in White County.
