Whether you’ve visited before or today’s feature will mean scheduling your first tee time, today’s feature course, The Freeport Club in Freeport, will surely end up atop your list of favorite area courses. Located just a short drive from Rockford only miles from the state line, this exceptional course and its country club-caliber conditions are part of the reason why Midwest golf is often considered some of the best.
The first thing you’ll notice when you start your round at Freeport is the varied types of challenge you’ll run into throughout the 18 hole layout - it’s a regular Tale of Two Courses. Many holes feature large expanses of mature trees and heavy pockets of water, while others are completely dry and wide open. Some approaches require pinpoint accuracy, while others allow you to get aggressive with your woods without worrying about missing left or right. One uniting feature that does wind its way through every hole here are the small, round, undulated greens. A true relic of the course’s 1893 establishment, these fantastic putting surfaces are Freeport’s secret weapon - always challenging, often frustrating, and, without question, some of the best you’ll ever experience. Master these, and the rest of your round is likely to fall into place and end with a low score.
If you don’t leave it all out on the course during your round, The Freeport Club facility offers every amenity you need to complete your day of fun. To get some swings in before you hit the first tee, Freeport features a two-tiered driving range that’s perfect to warm up every club in your bag. The fully stocked golf shop has an extensive selection of all of the essentials, and the knowledgeable staff can provide your with all of the advice and instruction you need. When you’re ready to celebrate your scores, the Foursome Pub is the area’s best 19th hole. With a casual atmosphere and awesome menu, the Foursome is a must-stop for after your round.
