Designed by Arthur Johnson and opened in the mid-70s, Castle Rock’s timeless layout is currently enjoying its finest renaissance. The mature tree-lined fairways, areas of water, and large purposely placed sand bunkers look like something out of a magazine, but don’t be fooled by their beauty: they’re there to challenge your game. Though the front nine is fully of plenty of challenges, golfers are given a taste of the difficulty right off the bat with the par-4 first hole. With water on both (yes, both) sides of the fairway as you hit your first tee shot, your score on the testy first can easily set the tone for the rest of your round.

The back, offering similar challenges as the front, is easier to start but a challenge to finish. The par-5 18th features a tight fairway lined by mature trees, and a significantly sized pond ominously waiting on the left side to eat up any wayward second shots. The lesson here is about course management and shot execution, and if you can master them both, you can also master Castle Rock.
