Spend the day on one of the Columbia-area’s best with today’s feature: $20 for 18 Holes with Cart and Range Balls at Indian River Golf Club in West Columbia ($49 Value. Good Any Day, Any Time until March 31, 2017!)
The best Carolina golf is known for its incredible scenery, spectacular views, and well-maintained undulated courses – and that’s exactly what you’ll find at today’s feature: Indian River Golf Club in West Columbia. Designed by Lynn Young and located just minutes from downtown Columbia, Indian River’s diverse challenges and unique layout make it a must-play for all golfers in the Palmetto State.
Though long considered a hidden gem among South Carolina’s larger and more-publicized championship courses like Harbour Town and Briar’s Creek, one trip to Indian River and you’ll see it more than holds its own. Playing just over 6,500 yards from the back set of tees, the unique layout at times winds through mature forest, along the shores of Hunt Pond, and tightly through several residential areas – all making accuracy off of the tee of the utmost importance. With each hole offering its own unique challenge and diverse grouping of hazards, course management and smart shot selection are truly the only keys to shooting a low score on the day.
Perhaps the most challenging and consistent test present throughout Indian River’s 18-hole layout are the fast-rolling greens. Universally undulated with seemingly no completely flat spots anywhere to be found, ball position should always be your number-one concern when mapping out your approach shot. Thanks to the great conditions, the greens tend to roll fast and true, making a two-putt average throughout your round an accomplishment within itself. Be sure to spend some time on the practice putting green before teeing off, as learning to adjust to the speedy greens early will give you a big advantage over your playing partners.
Rated 71.7 and measuring a slope of 133 from the back tees, you’ll need to bring your “A” game with your driver, putter, and everything in between if you’d like to walk off the 18th green with one of your lowest scores of the year. Play your first fall round at this spectacular course with today’s feature from GroupGolfer!
