Formerly known as the Tanglewood Golf Course, this layout from original course architect Jack Kidwell received a face-lift by Kinney Golf Course Design to become what it is today: An eclectic blend of both old and new. A looming challenge when courses are redesigned is retaining the identity and character of the original course while supplementing it and preparing it for the future of the game. You’ll find old Kidwell playability and traditional hole layouts with a modern and dynamic feel.
This par-70 layout measures out to an even 6,500 yards from the tips with a course/slope rating of 67/113. Glenross Golf Club features undulating fairways and big fast greens, and nearly 50 bunkers, 7 ponds and a creek come into play to add both challenge and beauty. To offset its difficulty, Glenross features four separate tee locations to choose from, allowing the course to fit the scratch golfer on your league and the weekend warrior next door.
You’ll start off your round on the moderately long 410-yard par-4 No.1, whose long and wide fairway will allow you to dig in and rip a firm tee shot. Taking your tee shot into account, you shouldn’t have trouble finding the green in two, which is guarded from the left side with a rather large bunker. The par-5 No.4 will ask you to carry over a creek with either your drive (if you’re an aspiring John Daly) or your second shot, so either go for broke or layup – this one is definitely a risk/reward hole.
On the back nine you’ll find four more ponds and continuous oak-framed fairways. You’ll start off with a quartet of par-4’s each with their own personality. Some with doglegs and water, others long and straight, riddled with fairway bunkers. You’ll finish up your round on the par-4 No.18 which will eat up wayward shots with water and woods alike; however, it’s a good hole to shave off a stroke you may have picked up along the way.
Visit Glenross Golf Club’s practice facility and make use of the range before you have to hit the ones that count. And tally up the days scores at The Pub at Glenross and kick up your feet, have a cold beverage and some great food, all while looking over the 9th hole from inside or out on the patio.
