Beautifully designed by Arthur Hills, the man responsible for some of the most highly rated courses in the United States, today’s feature course, Countryside Golf & Country Club, is truly the crown jewel of Naples-area golf. Stunning and picturesque from the first tee all the way through the 18th green, Countryside is exactly the right type of course to be enjoyed by players of all skill and ability levels.
Constructed through a nature preserve, multiple expanses of water, and several housing developments, Countryside’s unique layout is one of the Gulf Side’s most interesting tests of golf. Playing a not-too-lengthy 5,500 yards from the back set of tees, Arthur Hills did a masterful job turning the natural features of the Florida countryside into the course’s main source of challenge. Water is a near-constant threat off of the tee and around the greens, and even works its way into forced carries on the par-3 9th and 17th holes. Fairway bunkers guard many landing areas with the hopes of spoiling drives that don’t split the fairway, and mature trees are seemingly ever-present alongside the fairways – often turning what you thought was a simple punch out of the rough into something much more difficult.
Like many Florida courses, the greens at Countryside may be the biggest make-or-break detail of your round. Rolling fast and deceptively undulated from all angles, your flat stick may be your most important weapon in the fight against a triple-digit score on the day. Time spent before your round on the practice green learning the speed of the course is certainly well-spent at Countryside.
Speaking of practice, Countryside features a full-service driving range that gives you a chance to warm things up before teeing off on #1. The clubhouse pro shop is always stocked with some of the game’s biggest brands, and the variety of members-only amenities like tennis courts, swimming pool, and dining options are truly some of the finest you’ll find.
If your aim is to play some of the best golf in the Sunshine State, look no further than today’s feature. Countryside Golf & Country Club is a course that isn’t to be missed.
