Home to two of Georgia’s most talked-about and sought-after courses — Stonemont and Lakemont — every golfer who visits Stone Mountain Golf Club leaves with the same thought: “I can’t wait to go back and play them again.”

The first of the Stone Mountain facility’s two 18-hole gems, the Stonemont Course, isn’t just one of the best courses you’ll find in the Atlanta metro area – it’s one of the best courses you’ll find anywhere. Designed by the mammoth talent of Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1969, this 6,863-yard masterpiece is laid out over gently rolling and immaculately conditioned Georgia countryside, resulting in a pure test of golf from start to finish. Fairways are narrow here, meaning tee shots and accurate approaches will be at a premium, and the greens are well-protected by strategically placed bunkers and heavily wooded areas of Georgia pines. One step out onto the first tee here, and you’ll see why numerous professional and amateur championships have chosen Stonemont as their home course.

Another heavyweight of course design, Georgia’s own John LaFoy, left his signature mark on Stone Mountain’s other outstanding 18-hole golf course: The Lakemont Course. With a front nine built around Stone Mountain Lake, with water in play on nearly every hole, and a back nine that mixes rock outcroppings with more water, LaFoy has taken the already gorgeous landscape and turned it into a true test of each player’s mettle. His signature mounding and dramatic bunkering is also frequently in play here, with dramatic elevation changes adding some of the most beautiful views in the Peach State to each tee and green. Measuring just over 6,400 yards from the back set of tees, Lakemont is a shot-maker’s course through and through.
