What makes Northern Pines’ 6,557-yard course so unique is that it’s actually the combination of two distinct layouts, one modern and one classic, that have been joined together to form a one-of-a-kind 18-hole track. The original course, designed by George Swatt and built in the late 1960s, makes up most of the back nine of your round. Distinctly designed in true parkland style, the back nine features small crowned greens that are a true challenge to hit – and an even bigger struggle to hold. The front nine, in contrast to the back, was built in 1998 under the design of local Barry Jordan, and mimics the traditional links-style layouts of the legendary European courses. With large rolling hills and mostly open terrain around the fairways, much of the front nine’s significant amount of challenge comes from the four large ponds and thirty four sand traps in play throughout. Despite their differences, both nines are united by Northern Pines’ signature private club-caliber conditions and stunning picturesque views of the Onondaga countryside.
