Rouge Park Golf Course
Enjoy a signature Detroit course with today’s feature: $18 for 18 Holes with Cart at Rouge Park Golf Course in Detroit ($38 Value. Good Any Time until August 1, 2018!)
The City of Detroit is known for many things – but fantastic public golf options don't tend to be one of them. However, today’s feature, Rouge Park Golf Course located on the City’s west side, is flipping that script on that notion by quietly providing one of the best rounds of golf in Southeastern Michigan. Known for its unique layout, consistently exquisite conditions, and all around great facility, this hidden gem is definitely a must-play for all area golfers.
From the first hole (which requires two forced carry shots – one off of the tee and one approaching the green) to the last, Rouge Park’s one-of-a-kind design will dare to test every club in your bag. The 18 holes roll out over a truly unique and spectacular piece of land, all built around the flowing waters and riverbanks of the scenic Rouge River. Elevation changes are frequent, and in some cases, drastic (like the par-3 7th hole which plays only 125 yards but rises dozens of feet in the air), and classic mature Detroit trees seem to lurk around every corner. Combine these with the serene, almost secluded atmosphere, and you’ve got one hell of a round of golf.
If you’ve never played Rouge before, you’ll find one of the course’s most difficult challenges comes right after you make the turn. The par-4 11th hole is a doozie, to say the least, and plays just under 400 yards from the back set of tees. Your first shot must be well-struck and favor the left side of the fairway if you want a chance at hitting the green in regulation, as the second shot is long, downhill, and must clear an intimidating ravine that has claimed many balls in its day. Stripe both shots well and on target (no easy task), and you’ll have yourself in position to make par on one of the course’s most legendary challenges.
Before or after your round, or even at the turn, a trip into Rouge Park’s clubhouse is a must. Though the pro shop errs on the smaller side, it does carry a variety of apparel and accessories that you can take with you out on the course. The grill, too, features a limited menu, but the dynamite hot dogs and seasonal homemade chili are almost as enjoyable as the spectacular golf course.
A legendary Detroit course that has earned its reputation for being one of the Mitten’s best, Rouge Park’s epic layout is truly a treat to play. Don’t wait – reserve your round at Rouge now!
