Created as a collaboration between major champion Zoeller and noted course architect Clyde Johnston, Island West utilizes the impeccable Carolina countryside to create a course unlike any other you’ve played before. The entire 18-hole layout is designed around the area’s natural marshland, using the landscape’s changes in elevation, ample wetlands, and considerable foliage to guide the course from the first tee to the final green.

Accuracy is of the utmost importance at Island West, as many of the fairways are closely lined by rolling groups of mature trees. As you would expect in marshland, water is also a big factor here, requiring players who want to shoot a low score to be smart off of the tee and conservative on their approach shots. Playing just over 6,800 yards from the back set of tees, and carrying a course/slope rating of 73.2/140, the hardest challenge here just might be preventing yourself from being distracted by the course’s impressive views long enough to execute shots and plan your course management strategy appropriately. Do this well, and this one-of-a-kind layout has been known to give up a low score or two on the day.
