New Berlin Hills Golf Course
Though it ranks as among the top 20 oldest golf courses in the entire state of Wisconsin, New Berlin Hills Golf Course's consistent investment into its facilities has allowed it to maintain its status as one of the area's most enjoyable courses to play. Well-known for its classic layout, exceptional conditions, and spectacular customer service, New Berlin Hills is a round of golf that no Wisconsinite should miss.
Founded in 1907 under the name "Woodmont Country Club," New Berlin Hills has literally spent more than 110 years maturing into the fulfilling round it is today. Built in the typical style of its birth era, New Berlin Hills plays shorter than most modern courses at just over 6,500 yards from the back tees. The front nine rolls out across gently sloped fairways surrounded by towering mature trees, which were recently thinned out for a more cosmetically pleasing look. New-growth trees have also been planted in several areas on Nos. 1 and 5.
The primary challenge on several holes on the front nine is managing your game amidst the flowing waters of the Root River. Don’t get too comfortable in these conditions, however, as the back nine offers a stark change of pace from the front, challenging you with two of the most difficult par-3s you're likely to cross: the 207-yard No. 12 and the 214-yard No. 15. These two holes in particular benefit greatly from the recent course-wide reconstruction of all its bunkers, with better drainage and brand-new sand for enhanced playability and beauty.
Both nines are united by the course’s most impressive feature: immaculately conditioned greens. Small and heavily sloped from back to front, these greens are some of the quickest in the Milwaukee area. Learn to master the speeds of them early and aim your approaches far below the hole, and you’ll put yourself in a much better position to finish your round with a low score on the day.
