River Greens Golf Course began in 1969, when the Davis family purchased a defunct nine-hole golf course for the purpose of restoring it to its former potential. They succeeded, and then commissioned the other half of the now 18-hole facility in 1974. An interesting fact: River Greens was designed by famed course architect Jack Kidwell, the same designer responsible for River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ohio — another Davis family course warmly referred to as "River Greens North."
In its current configuration, River Greens measures up to 6,400 yards from the farthest tees, with a course/slope rating of 69.1/124. Additional tees modify the difficulty of the layout, coming in at as little as 4,825 yards and a 71.0/121 rating. Set up to accentuate a strategic approach to the game, River Greens is often a very "risk/reward"-oriented round. For example, the drivable par-4 No. 8 asks you to ignore all the water to the right and go for the glory. And even more tempting, especially for the long hitters, is the lengthy finish on Nos. 15, 16, 17 and 18; all are par-5s except for No. 17, a par-3 thrown in like an off-speed breaking ball.
River Greens Golf Course is happy to provide you a memorable golf experience, but that doesn't mean just on the course. The other facilities at River Greens are just as welcome. The fully stocked pro shop features top brands, like Titleist and Ping, as well as a knowledgeable staff to point you in the proper direction. There's also a driving range and practice green, so you can warm up for your round and test out any new items picked up from the pro shop.
