Longleaf Golf & Family Club
Bring the whole family and enjoy one of the area’s best courses with today’s feature: $25 for 18 Holes with Cart and Range Balls at Longleaf Golf & Family Club in Southern Pines ($95 Value. Good Any Day, Any Time until April 1, 2019!)
Designed by Dan Maples in 1988 and currently in its best shape in over a decade, Longleaf Golf & Family Club, is anything but ordinary. Built upon the grounds of what was once the Village of Pinehurst’s Horse Training Estates, Maples’ design, along with many new improvements and innovations brought upon by a recent change in ownership, have made Longleaf not only one of the most popular area courses for experienced golfers, but also a must-visit for young ones or beginners looking to fall in love with this great game.
Though it plays 6,709 yards and carries a 72.4/132 rating from the back set of tees, beginners and not-so-long hitters don’t have to worry: Longleaf has introduced a new method of choosing tees based on driver carry distance aptly named the Longleaf Tee System. The system features seven scaled tees to accommodate any skill level, along with blended configurations that result in six more options. The result is better pace of play, lower scores, and a more enjoyable experience.
The course itself is fairly challenging, especially thanks to its large areas of mature trees and imposing green-side bunkers, but incorporating a little bit of course management into your strategy will go a long way avoiding these hazards and making some pars. The brand-new greens are receptive, and roll fast and true. A staple in the Southern Pine community, Longleaf represents a delightful and fun design that has been well-adapted to its natural, elegant surroundings. In fact, Golf Digest has labeled the course as "The Most Playable Course in the Foothills," making it the can’t-miss round in North Carolina.
Though Longleaf features the sort of round one can only experience in the Pinehurst golf area, this renowned facility has even more to give than just world-class golf. With a full-length driving range, a large chipping/putting green and a pro shop fully stocked with top-of-the-line apparel and accessories, Longleaf’s new clubhouse really rounds out the experience. Longleaf is also home to the U.S. Kids Golf Academy – one of the world’s most innovative and impactful family golf programs in the world.
And, finally, what better way to cap off a fulfilling day on the course than with a filling meal at the new Heartwood Grill & Greens. The full menu features a variety of classic lunch and dinner options that explore the entire palate, from the kale salad to the braised duck breast — and always all expertly prepared.
Whether you’re looking to hit the links with your favorite foursome, or want a great outing with the kids, Longleaf Golf & Family Club is your must-visit area destination.
