Located just Northwest of Indianapolis, today’s feature course, Saddlebrook Golf Club in the Circle City, gives you the opportunity to test your game against one of the Hoosier State’s most unique and enjoyable layouts. Designed by Bob Thompson in the early 1990s, Saddlebrook’s 6,000-yard layout built on 152 acres of Midwestern countryside is truly the gem of Indiana golf.

Though both the front and back nine at Saddlebrook feature the same outstanding conditions, thoughtful design, and relaxed, serene atmosphere, the type of game you’ll need to play to master them both couldn’t be more different.

You’ll find the front nine to be fairly wide open with little punishment for shots that drift slightly away from the fairway or greens. Though there is plenty of water present here, along with some daunting sand bunkers, you can use the front to work your way as close to par as possible before taking on the back.

The back, in contrast with the front, is just about some of the tightest golf you’ll play near Indianapolis. Along with a huge amount of water that’s in play on just about every hole, the course’s tall mature trees really become a factor by gobbling up shots that vear off target – forcing many players to drop. If you want to be successful in your round at Saddlebrook, you will acquiesce to the variety of hazards present on the back, and instead, frame your game to play safe. Do this, and you may just find yourself making a surprising amount of pars and bogeys and keeping your score in good shape.

Though the course is will certainly be the highlight of your day, be sure to save a little time to spend on Saddlebrook’s impressive set of amenities – you won’t be sorry!
