Golf Digest Magazine doesn’t just flippantly throw out comments like calling a course “a little slice of heaven,” which should give you a good idea just how exceptional today’s feature course, The Villa Roma Golf Course at Villa Roma Resort, really is. A fun and enjoyable course to play no matter what your handicap may be (and even if you don’t have one), this stand-out Catskills challenge will help you make the most of your next round.
Playing just over 6,500 yards from the back set of tees, Villa Roma presents a truly memorable playing experience from the first tee to the final green. Built and opened for play in the mid-80s, the course has since matured beautifully, presenting golfers with 18 holes of what have been called some of the area’s best tees, fairways, and greens.
Let’s get to the course: The front nine, which plays about 200 yards shorter than the back, offers big hitters plenty of room off of the tee to spray their drives left or right without finding too much trouble. The greens on the front, however, are a different story thanks to their frequent and drastic undulation that makes even a short “gimme” putt no guarantee.
The back nine’s fairways are almost in direct contrast to the front thanks to their tight landing areas and hefty lengths. And while the greens remain a challenge for even the most skilled putters, the back nine does offer several risk vs. reward opportunities where solidly struck shots can help ensure a par or better.
Beautifully laid out among the gorgeous details of the Catskills countryside like tall mature trees and gorgeous water features, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more enjoyable round of golf anywhere on the western side of the state. So what in the world are you waiting for? Reserve your round at The Villa Roma Golf Course now.
