Play a Schenectady County standout with today’s feature: $10 for 9 Holes with Cart at Hillcrest Golf Course in Duanesburg near Albany ($24 Value. Good Any Day, Any Time until July 1, 2019!)
Built in 1961 by the Palazini family and improving ever since, today’s feature course, Hillcrest Golf Course in Duanesburg, offers the ideal nine-hole round of golf right here in Schenectady County. Relaxed and playable yet challenging when it needs to be, this 3,100-yard course is truly a special place to play no matter your skill level.
As you make your way through your round at Hillcrest, you’ll find that every club in your bag, and every shot in your arsenal, will be tested. The layout begins with the course’s longest hole: the par-5 525-yard 1st hole, and gets more challenging from there. With trees down your right hand side and rough on your left, an accurate tee shot is needed to start your round off right. Next, the 176-yard par-3 second hole is the first of three on the course to have water in play, and requires the perfect shot on the green for a chance at par. After you make it through the lengthy 3rd and 4th holes, the par-4 fifth gives you a great chance at birdie if you can take advantage. At just 306 yards from the back tees with fairways wide open on both sides, five has been known to produce the rare eagle for the longer hitters among us.
On the second half of the course, your scorecard may show the seventh hole as the shortest par-4 on the course, but don’t be fooled: a large pond intersects the fairway, forcing players to risk hitting it over or laying up with a short iron off of the tee. If your course management skills help prevent you from dropping strokes on seven, eight and nine offer fairly straightforward par opportunities that provide the perfect platform to strongly finish your round – just do your best to avoid the water on the newly designed ninth.
The course is enough to attract any golfer to Hillcrest, but the addition of some new amenities definitely qualifies it as a must-visit for all. Thanks to the newly designed ninth hole, players can now enjoy warming up their game on a full-service driving range and practice putting green. The clubhouse, once a one-room schoolhouse built in the 1800s, features a bar and grille that serves up delicious daily specials of your favorite drinks and food.
