Well-built, beautifully maintained, and a true challenge of golf are all ways to describe today’s renown feature course: the Raleigh Golf Association’s Public Course in Raleigh. A walker-friendly course that plays just 6,088 yards from the back set of tees, this 68.8/123-rated course is one of the area’s best – and is a must-play for all serious players.
Split into two distinct nine-hole layouts, the Raleigh Golf Association’s Public Course’s front and back nines are designed to test every club in your bag in different ways. The front nine, the shorter of the two at just over 2,900 yards from the back tees, is a great place to set the tone for your round, with multiple scoring opportunities presented early and often. The par-5 4th and 6th holes are definitely reachable in two for those who are long and straight off of the tee, and present solid birdie opportunities to help get you in the scoring groove early. The finishing hole, the par-4 9th, is drivable off of the tee, and offers a rare eagle opportunity for those who can hit a great tee shot and execute a clutch putt under pressure.
Playing a little longer than the front at 3,121 yards from the back tees, the back is full of deceptive hole layouts and challenging finishes – a fact that can drive up your score quicker than you can recover. Your best chance for birdie is on the par-3 12th hole, which only plays 125 yards, but the other holes will not be so apt to help your score. The ultimate test comes on the course’s final hole, the par-4 18th, which plays completely uphill from the tee box all the way to the three-tiered green – a monster for those who can’t keep it in the fairway. Be sure to club up here, as the elevation makes each shot significantly longer than it looks.
Along with the Public Golf Course, the Raleigh Golf Association facility is also home to the 9-hole Stockholders course open to only RGA members, and a fully stocked pro shop that features all kinds of equipment and apparel from the name brands you love. Future facility plans include the installation of a full-scale practice facility with driving range and short game area, as well as a training center for lessons and instruction.
A truly wonderful course located right in the heart of the legendary Raleigh golf landscape, a round of golf at Raleigh Golf Association’s Public Course is one all will enjoy. Don’t wait for this one to expire – reserve your round now!
