Thunder Bay Resort’s 400 beautifully wooded acres include a mile of frontage on the Thunder Bay River, 34 suites, villas and chalets, and home sites. Most of the property is dedicated to its golf course, a challenging 18 holes carved from mature forests with rolling terrain and numerous ponds and marshes. The course is picturesque and well maintained. Four sets of tees range from 5,004 to 6,712 yards with slope ratings from 121 to 131. Though shooting a low score at Thunder Bay requires a mix of talent, luck, and course management, the GPS carts provide a helping hand with yardage updates and hole flyovers.
In addition to its golf course, Thunder Bay Resort is best known for its nationally recognized and award-winning Elk Viewing, Carriage Ride, Gourmet Dinner and Wine Tasting. This 4-hour event is literally "over the river and through the woods" behind teams of massive draft horses to view the inhabitants of the 160-acre elk preserve. Then on to the Elk Antler Log Cabin, decorated in trophy mounts and period antiques, where a fabulous dinner is prepared and served before you on antique wood cook stoves.
Elk viewing makes a great optional addition to a couple’s golf outing on selected midweek and weekend dates, or as part of a great "gals getaway" golf outing. Other amenities include a small full-service RV park and the Clubhouse Grill. In nearby Alpena, you'll find wineries, galleries, lighthouses, Austin Brothers Beer Co., an IMAX style digital planetarium and even a glass-bottom shipwreck boat tour into Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary — all there to round out a great trip to Thunder Bay Resort.
