Now let’s get to the golf:
The Resort’s oldest course, known affectionately and appropriately as the Carolina course, was designed by perhaps the most famous name in American golf: Donald Ross. Known for his signature design style and mounded greens, Ross put all of his magic into these nine holes – creating a masterpiece of golf that has been testing golfers for almost one hundred years. Constructed in the valley between the surrounding Balsam Mountains, the Carolina Course is flat and straight from tee to green but requires exceptionally accurate iron play to hit and hold the elevated putting surfaces. Par 35 and playing 2,969 yards from the championship tees, the Carolina Course is truly a gem.
Built just three years after the Carolina course in 1929, the Resort’s second nine, known as Dogwood, is a beautiful mix of near-constant risk vs. reward opportunities. At just over 2,800 yards from the back set of tees, longer hitters can usually hit the par-5s in two and even drive the green on some par-4s if their accuracy and distance are on point. With several elevation changes and several holes that wander around two coves, choosing the right distance isn’t always easy – so be prepared to make some tough choices during your round.
Finally, it’s the facility’s newest and longest course, the Blue Ridge Course, that will provide the biggest test to your game. Built in 1986 and constructed beautifully on mountainous terrain, this sprawling course is long, unforgiving, and a true test to even the most skilled and experienced players. The course follows a creek up the valley and comes down the opposite side of the stream, meaning reading the break on the greens isn’t always the easiest task.
Not only will today’s feature allow you to play, but also to stay – and The Waynesville Inn’s amenities are some of the area’s best. Along with a full-service hotel, the facility also features a spa, fantastic dining options, and beautiful banquet rooms. Whatever you need, trust us, the Waynesville Inn has you covered.
