Wilson Country Club is a scenic 18-hole championship golf course with a challenging par-72 layout originally designed by architect Willard Byrd in 1973. A major renovation in 2005, directed by architect John LaFoy, resulted in drastically improved playing conditions and subsequently earned the club a reputation for having some of the best greens in the state. In addition, Wilson Country Club itself is ranked among the Top 100 courses in North Carolina, and No. 5 in the state's Eastern division.
Wilson Country Club features three lakes, 62 bunkers and 6,851 yards of lush Bermuda grass. The teeing grounds, fairways and roughs are all 419 Bermuda grass, whereas most other courses in the area use only common Bermuda, and the fast, undulating greens are surfaced with Bent grass. Wilson Country Club is one of a very few courses east of Raleigh to feature this highly playable putting surface.
Though the tips play to a challenging 73.1/136 course/slope rating, the layout provides three additional sets of tee locations measuring as little as 5,200 yards that allow players to choose those most appropriate for their own skill level.
