By staying ever attentive to the needs of its guests, Gates Four Golf and Country Club has earned frequent accolades and a reputation for exceeding the expectations of anyone that sets foot on the course. Originally designed by William Byrd, a member of the Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame, in 1967, Gates Four has recently completed a total renovation of the course that saw its return to the original intentions of the architect.
Most of the work was focused on the greens, which were made larger and more tolerant of heat and rain. In addition, bunkers received significant investments into USGA-specification sand, and are now soft, light and a pleasure to escape from.
"Gates Four has been my home course since 1970. I’ve played hundreds of courses in several states and in several countries and, in my opinion, it’s the fairest golf course I’ve ever played."
— Howard Ward, Golf Writer, The Pilot Newspaper
The par-72 facility at Gates Four characterized by a stern yet fair challenge. Though the 6,895-yard Black tees play above-par at a 73.3/132 course/slope rating, there is certainly room on the course for players of all skill levels. The four additional tee locations range from the 6,433-yard Blues to the (slightly more challenging by rating/slope) Reds, at 5,425 yards and 71.4/119.
"The golf course is a good one, and now that it’s been completely renovated, I look forward to playing it a lot."
— Hampton Oxendine, member since 2008
Aside from offering a world-class golf course, Gates Four Golf and Country Club is also Fayetteville's oldest gated community and is accompanied by a 28,000 square-foot clubhouse, which opened in 2001. Inside, JP's Bar and Grill, the on-site casual dining establishment, offers the perfect wind-down atmosphere to relax and enjoy your all your favorite food-and-drink options.
As a golf writer, I’m often asked, 'If you could play only one more round of golf on any course you wanted, where would it be?' My answer is always, 'Gates Four.'"
