Shade Mountain Golf Course
Shade Mountain Golf Course was built in 1969 by designer Ed Ault upon rich bent grass greens and winter rye fairways. Perched upon 200 acres of picturesque woodlands and lush rolling terrain in the shade of a nearby mountain, Shade Mountain is as challenging as it is fun.
The front nine starts players off with a one-two punch of right and left doglegs on No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. It doesn't let up after that, either, with a mid-length par-3 that forces a carry over a creek, a par-4 with a sharp left turn, and a par-5 that measures over 500 yards. Whew! The fairways open up after that, allowing some really good scoring holes in Nos. 6 thru 9.
The back nine maintains a similar style and pace: Forced carries, tree-lined fairways and a long par-5. No 18 offers a perfectly balanced summary of the entire round in a single hole — a gentle dogleg-right, an approach across water, sand traps at front-left and front-right, and a sloped green.
Shade Mountain Golf Shop offers a fully stocked shop with a wide selection of competitively priced golf equipment and apparel. The list of brands is large, with all the regulars like Nike and Titleist, but also includes Ashworth, Tommy Hilfiger and Izod clothing, and shoes from Etonic. You might even pull the trigger on buying that new King Cobra driver!
And if you're the type that's more interested in the dining room than the pro shop, you'll love Shade Mountain Bar and Grill's menu — or rather, menus. The restaurant offers a full roster of great food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Regardless of your favorite aspect of Shade Mountain Golf Course, you're in for a well-rounded and enjoyable golf experience that's sure to have you returning for more.
