Sauganash Country Club
Backed by a passionate group of local owners and nearly a century of rich tradition, Sauganash Country Club is thriving once again as one of southwest Michigan’s oldest and most scenic golf courses. Located in the quiet town of Three Rivers, this classic 18-hole course—originally founded in 1924—has entered a new era of revitalization, blending the spirit of its storied past with upgrades that promise a bright future.
Set on rolling terrain and tracing the edge of the St. Joseph River, Sauganash offers an engaging layout with two distinct nines. The front nine tests golfers with tight driving corridors and subtle elevation shifts, while the back nine ventures into mature woods and alongside the water for a scenic and challenging finish. Sauganash is even one of the few Michigan courses said to have been visited and influenced by legendary golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast, adding to its mystique and architectural pedigree.
Playing just over 6,100 yards from the back tees, the course provides four sets of tees to accommodate players of all skill levels. The Blue tees challenge with a 70.7 rating and 132 slope, while the shorter Gold and Red tees keep the course playable and fun for newer players and juniors. Sauganash is also widely respected for its smooth, well-maintained greens, which are among the best in the area thanks to recent investments and diligent care from the new ownership group.
But the golf is just part of what makes Sauganash Country Club a true community cornerstone. The clubhouse has undergone significant upgrades, including a modernized pro shop, an expanded cantina with eight rotating taps, and a brand-new space called “The Tee Box”, designed for private parties and meetings of up to 40 guests. Upstairs, the banquet hall has been revamped to host up to 100 people, offering a beautiful setting for weddings, live music, reunions, and more.
With a revitalized golf course, new carts, fresh tee markers, and a lively, welcoming social scene, Sauganash Country Club is once again a must-play and must-visit destination in southwest Michigan.
